SEE YOU AT NAMM IN 2019!

Remembering the Malibu Guitar Festival and meeting the great Mick Fleetwood.  There is a very interesting story that goes with these photos. My husband Perry Fretz, and our good friend Mike Derhamer and I were setting up our booth at the Malibu Guitar Festival several hours before the show began..  Our booth was next to the VIP Entrance and the Main Stage.  A pretty young woman walked by a few times and  being who I am said, "HI".  She came over and introduced herself as Lucy and we began a light and friendly conversation.  She noticed that I had silver sparkles all over my arms and she started exclaiming how much she  LOVED  sparkles and asked me where I got it from so she could buy some too.  I told her my Aunt Darlene Templeton sent it to me from Montana.  Seeing her disappointment I told her I had the bottle here with me and offered to SPRAY her down.  She was delighted holding her hair up as I sprayed it on... We talked about Bad Boy Guitars® and how we were a mom and pop operation and she looked at all our guitars admiring them and stating how beautiful  they were telling us we had the best booth at the show!   She returned a while later with her best friend who also wanted to be sprayed. Now another woman may have said NO, or say that will be $5.00 but, I just smiled and sprayed  her down. We laughed and had a good "GIRL" time.  I then asked her if she were a vendor to which she replied, "No" and I then asked, "Oh are you a musician?  She replied, "No....... BUT MY DADDY IS!"  I asked what instrument did he play and she said,  "HE IS THE DRUMMER!"  My  husband who was listening to our conversation asked, "IS YOUR DADDY MICK FLEETWOOD ?" Without skipping a beat LUCY FLEETWOOD said YES and then asked us, "WOULD YOU LIKE TO MEET HIM?"  Of course we said yes, (who wouldn't) and she went and got her dad  MICK Fleetwood, who took the time out of his busy schedule to see us and check out our guitars.  Mick was very friendly and  very generous with his time as  he checked out our Bad Boys having a friendly chat with Perry and Mike ..... Thanks Lucy, for going out of your way to bring your father to our booth.  While Perry, Mike and Mick talked I thanked Lucy for what was an experience we will always remember and she leaned into me smiling and said, " you were so nice to me and didn't even know me or anything about me, and you even gave me a hug."  Loving it!  ........ Hugs Terry

PERRY FRETZ AND BAD BOY GUITARS AT NAMM 2018!

 February 3, 2018 " Featured, Gear, News

You know what everyone loves at the NAMM show?  A great story! Hang out for a couple minutes and read on, because I have a story that explains exactly why ... well ... NAMM! First, meet Perry Fretz.

FEATURED:   Perry is an Arizona born and located guitar Luthier.  He is the owner of Bad Boy Guitars. (www.badboyguitars.com). Perry hails from a heritage of carpenters, musicians, craftsmen throughout his families history. He’s also the frontman of Phoenix staple classic rock band Attitude Cat and an acoustic rock band called Full Circle.

I met Perry at NAMM with what started as, these two biscotti’s sneaking up behind me at the wine booth in the front of the auditorium. I took their pic and asked what they were promoting. As you can see by the flyer, it was Bad Boy Guitars.  They were grabbing their drinks when I ran in to Phil Soussan, he posed for a pic and told me about the Last In Line show that would happen the next night, (Keep an eye on SonicMag,  Ill have photos from that show up soon. I shot it.)

When I turned back, the girls were walking in front of  me, so I followed. In about 20 yards, I was suddenly tackled in to a wall by a black blur with a Red Sox logo. It was Art Long.  Art and I were fellow musicians on the scene out of high school and had been friends in cow-poke Massachusetts for years. As time goes by, you might chat on Facebook, but he’s in Arizona, I’m in LA – we both have lives, when are you going to traverse that distance to hang? We have literally not been in each other’s presence for at least 25 years. What a surprise. Here’s Art showing one of the Bad Boy Guitar straps.

So, back to Perry Fretz. From his bio, we read: “Perry learned how to play guitar at the age of nine and by the time he was in high school he had his first band. Throughout the years he has owned dozens of guitars and he always had a desire to own a better quality instrument for himself.  Perry’s breakthrough came after meeting an icon in the industry Neal Moser of Moser Guitars when Neal asked if he could do the finish work on his custom guitars. This was just the beginning!  Since that time Perry has been dedicated to his craft and puts his time and passion into each guitar he builds by hand.  Most luthiers send their guitars out to have the finish work done by other finishers. Perry is among the few who does all his own finish work. His expertise continues to grow with each completed guitar and his desire to be one of the best in the industry drives him onward!”

I’ll give you this. The Perry I met was highly detailed on even the tiny specifics that make each of his pieces a one of a kind. Hisfingerprints, for lack of a better description, are on each guitar from start to finish – and by finish, I mean, he literally finishes each one, and with stunning results! He was eager to talk about his works, with passion, not with a sales pitch – he’s the real deal when it comes to his guitars. Take a look at a few snaps from his booth and then we’re going to get the link.

On the Bad Boy Guitars website you’ll get much better photos, detailed descriptions and of course, all the links you need to make contact, get a guitar and stalk them on the social network. So here ya’ go: www.badboyguitars.com

Now, as for what NAMM is to everyone who goes – well, everyone has a different story. Now you’ve got one of mine ... and THAT is why the NAMM Show is so amazing. Now go do your Steve Vai Ten Hour Guitar Workout, you’re getting sloppy.

PLEASE LIKE US ON FACEBOOK!

YA KNOW YA WANT TO!
